Ganguly was great captain. Even Sachin

Presently MS Dhoni is doing a great job as captain of indian team.

Greame Smith from SA is definitely the best captain , he leads the team from the front.

When choosing the best captain we have to look at his leadership skills putting aside his personal skills. No doubt they are important too, but leadership is the key.

Keeping the above in mind I would have to say that the best International captain around nowadays is Ricky Ponting. I agree that Australia is going through a rough patch right now. But, what makes a good leader a great leader is his ability to admit defeat, which Ricky is doing very well right now. :P

In terms of all time best captain, my vote would definitely go to Stephen Fleming. I mean he captained New Zealand for as long as I can remember. And he did a pretty good job of it too. :)
